Project Overview

I was approached by Cathy, Gordon and Kirstin at the end of 2022 to assist them with the brand identity of their existing wine bar “One One Two” and their new bottle shop “The Grapemonger” both located on The Brae in Nairn, Scotland.

I was tasked with creating a visual identity for both locations. This project spanned two brand identities, a new website, signage and printed touchpoints.

The Challenge

One One Two serves exceptional hand-picked wine and deliciously creative food for sharing. However, because the pandemic had forced them and so many other businesses within the hospitality sector to change and adjust their offering, the team at One One Two felt that what they ‘do’ wasn’t that clear anymore. Were they a ‘Cafe’, a ‘Deli’ a ‘wine bar’ - or something else?

Alongside this, they were also intending to open a bottle shop on the same street. Called ‘The Grapemonger’ this new space would curate a broad selection of wine, spirits and beer.

Brand Research Documentation

Brand Research and Strategy

We spent time going through aspirational wine bars and small plate eateries, examining what it was that made them such great places to visit. We then worked through some workshop exercises to determine their brand purpose, vision and values.

Brand Purpose Statement for One One Two and The Grapemonger

We managed to filter down what One One Two do to this purpose statement:

We love to share our passion for wine and food. So we’ve created two spaces, a wine bar & eatery and a wine shop to showcase that. These relaxed, convivial spaces deliver a fun and exciting evening, whatever your occasion.

With statement in mind, we started the process of creating brand concepts for both brands.

Brand Development

I then go to work developing concepts for both locations. Inspiration was drawn from traditional typography and visual styles synonymous with regions known for their wine. The goal was to create a range of brand assets for One One Two and The Grapemonger that would convey a timeless quality and charm, whilst also feeling fun and inviting.

The two location identities needed to feel connected, but also have a personality of their own. The colour palette was already dictated by One One Two’s distinguished navy blue.

Digital Application

I designed and developed a website for One One Two that would showcase their sharing menu, allergen information, as well as the latest news and events at The Grapemonger. Visit their website: oneonetwo.co.uk
